Here Comes the Sun

Finally the temperatures have started to rise for the coming Spring and my mood has been directly correlated. The city itself even seems more lively and upbeat. Buildings smile in the sun, people congregate outside and Spring clothing emerges.

"Little darling, it's been a long cold lonely winter
Little darling, it feels like years since it's been here
Here comes the sun, here comes the sun
and I say it's all right"

Spring is here and love is in the air. It is hard sometimes, being so far from my love, but it also allows me to really cherish our relationship. It is all about expressing the love, and he did it so well when he had this hand-made love-letter hand-delivered to me by a friend visiting the city.

"Little darling, the smiles returning to the faces
Little darling, it seems like years since it's been here
Here comes the sun, here comes the sun
and I say it's all right"

After the love-letter hand-off, my friends and I had dinner at Florencia 13. Its a very tiny restaurant in Greenwich Village and the shrimp tacos were especially delicious. After dinner and drinks, I had an urge to go to karaoke. I hold a special place in my heart for karaoke, just because it springs to mind fond memories. It reminds me of the night my love sang "The Wanderer" and theatrically ripped open his shirt to show "Rosie" on his chest. It reminds me of the first night I ever sang karaoke and how I was so nervous to sing in front of a crowd that I threw up afterward. It reminds me of the many nights of laughing and dancing with my girlfriends in Kansas City. Besides all of the fond memories, there is something freeing about singing, letting go of everything and just reveling in the music. So we headed to U2 on St. Marks, where they have private karaoke rooms for your party, "Lost In Translation" style. It was so amazing, I loved every minute. The only thing missing was Craig Klein.... or maybe Scarlett Johansson.

"Little darling, I feel that ice is slowly melting
Little darling, it seems like years since it's been clear
Here comes the sun, here comes the sun,
and I say it's all right
It's all right"

Its Time We "Met"

I always feel guilty when it takes me this long between posts. So, sorry! I've been quite busy and I am coming to accept the notion that I probably won't be sleeping much during the week. Nine classes is a handful but things are going well. Even though school is busy, I have managed to do more around the city than I did last semester, including visiting the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The Met is an impressive, eclectic mix of history and art. It is a great reminder that art is something that transcends ages, so it must be important. Below are a couple of pieces from the museum that I found especially beautiful. The first is a collage of a neighborhood in Brooklyn by Romare Bearden. The other is a collection called "Damaged Bones" by Michael Aschenbrenner.  It consists of a collection of glass bones bound in interesting ways, a sculptural metaphor for casualties of war.

On the way to the museum I was stopped in my tracks when I saw these very tired little puppies. I miss my animals so much.

Maybe thats why I turned to animals for inspiration for my Lookbook Project for my Collections class. The assignment was to create a mass-market collection for a luxury designer. I chose to present my take on Givenchy for Urban Outfitters. These pages were printed and bound in a book and I am very happy with the outcome. This book, my portfolio and a Valentino-inspired collection will be on display in the FIT AAS Exhibition on April 30-May 4. Please come!
